The Jalbil, or Boyd’s Forest Dragon, has been identified by traditional owners as the totemic animal of the site. The Jalbil has been incorporated into the garden in various forms, and structures, including the proposed Jalbil Visitor’s centre - which will be the official entrance to Mossman Botanic Garden. Jalbil represents the importance of animals (and humans) living together with plants. A world devoid of plants has no animals, and a world devoid of animals has no plants.
