MBG SEED COLLECTING Video

Explore Mossman Botanic Garden's collaboration with some of Australia leading tropical experts as they collect seeds on Mossman River and the surrounding area.

CURRENT PROGRESS

 

  • Geotechnical, soil and drainage testing for groundworks to commence construction of Stage One and  components of Stage Two of the Garden 2024/2025
  • Application for a Commonwealth Government - Regional Partnerships and Precincts RPPP Grant to create a Wet Tropics Gateway Precinct WTGP  as part of the Mossman Botanic Garden. This is in partnership with Douglas Shire Council.
  • Inclusion of Eastern Kuku Yalanji knowledge in design principles for the Garden  
  • Commence implementation of the botanical plans  and layouts for the Garden, including information on how records  and data will be kept for phylogenetic conservation with the Australian Tropical Herbarium 
  • Preparation and development of detailed  design and engineering drawings /specifications for construction of Stage One of the Garden, including purchase planning and the bid process for appointment of construction companies and engineers,  2025-2026
  • Seeking capital contributions for construction of Stage One of the Garden from the Commonwealth and Queensland governments, as well as the philanthropic and corporate sectors 
  • Regulatory and town planning, DA approvals for construction of Stage One of the Garden 
  • Continuing to build  on our strong strategic partnerships  and MOU's including those with James Cook University and CQU University, Douglas Shire Council,  Jabalbina Yalanji Aboriginal  Corporation, the Wet Tropics Management Authority,  various departments and agencies of the Queensland Government,TAFE Queensland, Terrain NRM, Rainforest rescue, Climate Force and KPMG to ensure long-term success of the Garden, as well as with potential, key national and international philanthropic and corporate organisations 
  •  Completed transition of the Board of Directors  over to a skills-based board
